This product is identical to the JBCO (Original) except that the beans are toasted longer to give darker color and nuttier aroma. In Jamaica, the darker colored oil with the nuttier characteristic odor is believed to be richer in the beneficial components and hence more potent.
Jamaican Black Castor Oil (Extra Dark) is a dark burnt orange to reddish brown oil with a distinctively nutty aroma.
This oil is produced by roasting and cold pressing castor beans (Ricinus communis) which are grown in Jamaica. It is the roasting of the beans prior to oil extraction that gives the oil its characteristic color and odor thereby distinguishing it from the cold pressed oil produced from un-toasted beans. The roasting of the seeds raises the pH level of JBCO which results in a preferred ingredient in various hair and cosmetic formulations.
